Week 18 — What shall I do next?

“I will live this day as if it is my last. And what shall I do with this last precious day which remains in my keeping? (Mandino, Og. The Greatest Salesman in the World (p. 73))

I was inspired to use this question “What shall I do next?” instead of “Why did this happen to me” while I was attending a psychology for counselling course in 2001. It has been one of my favorite questions since then. The teacher explained that if we focused on “Why did this happen to …?”, many become distraught and their mind is stuck in a never-ending loop. When we ask ourself “What shall I do next?” It is open our world to new possibilities.

After listening to Shawn Achor video “The Wisdom of Play”, he talked about: The happiness advantages:

  • Better source jobs
  • Better keep jobs
  • Superior productivity
  • More resilient
  • Less burnout
  • Less turnover
  • Greater sales

and he gave us a tool “Creating Lasting Positive Change”:

  • 3 Gratitude
  • Journaling
  • Exercise
  • Meditation
  • Random Acts of Kindness

And I read James Clear’s blog (,he shared Barbara Fredrickson’s research “What positive thoughts do to your brain; here are 3 ideas for you to consider”:

  • Meditation – people who meditated built valuable long–term skills.
  • Writing – the students who wrote about positive experiences had better mood levels.
  • Play – we schedule meetings… why not schedule time to play?

I have been resisting in any kind of writing for ages. After reading James’s blog, I was not only inspired to write my gratitude notes and acknowledge my feelings but also I enjoy writing them from my heart and look forward to writing it everyday. It was totally different mindset from being told “you have to do it.” I am very grateful for my big shift. My big Wow for my new possibility!!!

What Shall I do next?

“Give yourself permission to smile and enjoy the benefits of positive emotion. Schedule time for play and adventure so that you can experience contentment and joy, and explore and build new skills.

Fredrickson’s “broaden and build” theory proves, happiness is essential to building the skills that allow for success.

In other words, happiness is both the precursor to success and the result of it.”

Week 17a — Entertaining Evils with Affirmations

After practicing this affirmation “I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy” on and off since week 9, this early morning I was able to use this powerful affirmation to make me at peace with the challenge. “The problems of my home will be left in my home. The problems of the market place be left in the market place.” (Mandino, Og – The Greatest Salesman in the World (p. 71)

I have faced a challenge with a friend who has refused to receive help and exposed the unpleasant energy regarding family’s problem at the workplace for a couple weeks ago. I almost gave up our friendship, fortunate … “Man is the sum total of his own thoughts; so the question is, how are we going to entertain only the good thoughts and reject the evil ones? At first we can’t keep the evil thoughts from coming, but we can keep from entertaining them. The only way to do this is to “get something for them.” (MKMMA, Week 9 – 27) This early morning my SIT was to concentrate on this affirmation “(I called the name) you are whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy” over and over…

“When a thought of anger, jealousy, fear or worry creeps in, just start your affirmation going. The way to fight darkness is with light — the way to fight cold is with heat — the way to overcome evils is with good. For myself, I never could find any help in denials. Affirm the good, and the bad will vanish. – Frederick Elias Andrews” (MKMMA, week 9 – 28)

My intention is to continue concentrating on the affirmation so I would be able to remain at peace, confidence and kindness when I will be in the reality again next week. “If our predominant mental attitude is one of power, courage, kindliness and sympathy, we shall find that our environment will reflect conditions in correspondence with these thoughts.” (MKMMA – Week 9 – 30)

Week 17 — Concentration on Controlling Desire

“The subconscious mind may be aroused and brought into action in any direction and made to serve us for any purpose, by concentration. The practice of concentration requires the control of the physical, mental, and physical being; all modes of consciousness whether physical, mental, or physical, must be under control.” (MKMMA, Week 17-9)

“If you wish to eliminate fear, concentrate on courage.” (MKMMA, Week 17-34)

“If you wish to eliminate lack, concentrate on abundance.” (MKMMA, Week 17-35)

At first I wondered how I shall begin to practice concentration on abundance. I then recalled that when I was young I was taught to chant before going to bed; and also use different mantra chanting whenever I need them in different situation.  Up to date I am still practicing both types of chanting everyday because I believe that chanting is one of the power of attention for concentration. And I experience more peace of mind. Therefore, I have decided to apply my mantra chanting on this concentration exercise. With the intention to concentrate on abundance, it helps my body easily relax. I love this exercise and I promise to persist on developing my concentration until I succeed. “Remember that power comes through repose. Let the thought dwell upon your object, until it is completely identified with it, until you are conscious of nothing else.” (MKMMA, Week 17-33)

I came across the suggestion of “Concentrate on Controlling Desire” by Brett & Kate McKay (August 8, 2012): If you hear good news resist the desire to tell it to the first person you meet and you will be benefited thereby. It will require the concentration of all your powers of resistance to prohibit the desire to tell. After you feel that you have complete control over your desires you can then tell your news. But you must be able to suppress the desire to communicate the news until you are fully ready to tell it. Persons that do not possess this power of control over desires are apt to tell things that they should not, thereby often involving both themselves and others in needless trouble.

If you are in the habit of getting excited when you hear unpleasant news, just control yourself and receive it without any exclamation of surprise. Say to yourself, “Nothing is going to cause me to lose my self-control. You will find from experience that this self-control will be worth much to you in business. You will be looked upon as a cool-headed business man, and this in time becomes a valuable business asset. Of course, circumstances alter cases. At times it is necessary to become enthused. But be ever on the lookout for opportunities for the practice of self-control. “He that ruleth his spirit is greater than he that ruleth a city.”

I was very happy that I read the article last night. This morning I got a test, I received unpleasant phone call which was full of emotions. I got an opportunity to apply how to control over my desire to respond. I also immediately apply this promise “I promise to give my kindness and love consciously to that person I encounter.” Thanks for all these great tools I have!

“Your degree of success is determined by the nature of your desire. If the nature of your desire is in harmony with Natural Law or the Universal Mind, it will gradually emancipate the mind and give you invincible courage.” (MKMMA, Week 17-25)

Week 16 — Feeling is The very Fountain head of Power!

“The psychologists have come to the conclusion that there is but one sense, the sense of feeling, and that all other senses are but modifications of this one sense; this being true, we know why feeling is the very fountain head of power, why the emotions so easily overcome the intellect, and why we must put feeling into our thought, if we wish results. Thought and feeling is the irresistible combination.” (MKMMA, Week 16 – 34)

How can I easily attach any feeling I desire to any thought? I learned that “smile” helps me be able to ignite my feelings.

“That’s because research shows that a smiling expression sends feedback from your face to your left frontal cortex, which in turn triggers the release of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine into your brain.” (Carol Kinsey Goman) “Why is a smile so powerful? It all comes down to how smiling can change your brain. The more you smile, the more effective you are at breaking the brain’s natural tendency to think negatively.” ( How Smiling Change Your Brain)

“The vitality depends upon the feeling with which the thought is impregnated. If the thought is constructive, it will possess vitality; it will have life, it will grow, develop, expand, it will be creative; it will attract to itself everything necessary for its complete development.” (MKMMA, Week 16 – 21)

“Then the most important aspect of visualization, the thing that works for me every time, is to SMILE!! I cannot emphasize enough how powerful smiling is to engage your emotions in a visualization. The bigger I smile the more welled up with love and joy I become. Allow your feelings to glow inside you until you feel like you will burst with excitement. This is the point when you know that you have engaged the energy of the Universe who has heard your request. Getting your emotions involved is the only way to change your beliefs and change your life. The rest is just words and pictures. Once you hit this state, you will know without a doubt what it feels like to harness your true power.” (

Keep Smiling 🙂 I persist until I succeed. I am nature’s greatest miracle!!!

Week 15 — Beautiful Manners

“I seek constantly to improve my manners and graces, for they are the sugar to which all are attracted.” (Mandino, Og: The Greatest Salesman in the World (p. 71))

When I read this sentence, I immediately questioned myself whether I acted any unattractive manner yesterday, last week or last month. How can I constantly be mindful in good manners and graces? I did a research and I like these three suggestions:

  • Walk with purpose:  “you have to work on being aware of what your body is doing and where it is going at all times.”  I normally have a tendency to walk fast. Since my right foot hasn’t 100% healed yet and I have to walk very slowly right now. This would be a good opportunity for me to practice walking with the purpose of being natural graceful manners. Wow, that sounds big, but let’s do it.
  • “The real test of good manners is to be able to put up with bad manners pleasantly.” ― Kahlil Gibran I love the test; it really helps me know how much better I am and what else I need to improve.
  • Manners Are A Form Of Beauty

“When you have excellent manners,  it communicates who you are. I am convinced it makes you beautiful! Have you ever seen a sour face? Speak to the person and she responds with a bite! Speak to a smiley, warm face and you’re likely to get a friendly response.

Manners communicate the beauty of a beautiful soul. It brings beauty out of a plain person indeed. In my opinion, Audrey Hepburn isn’t classically beautiful but her heart, grace, and kindness shone out through every pore of her being. She had the finest manners. And lastly,” (

“It is our choices…that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities” – J. K. Rowling

I would like to close with the Poems “I’m making a list” by Shel Silverstein:

“I’m making a list of things I must say for politeness,

And goodness and kindness and gentleness,

sweetness and rightness:

Pardon me

How are you?

Excuse me

Bless you

May I?

Thank you

If you know some that I’ve forgot, please stick them in you eye!”

Week 14 — Creative Power

This week assignment was to watch one of movie from this list: October Sky, Cool Runnings, Door-to-Door, Rudy, a Good Lie and Wild. I chose to watch Door-to-Door because it sounds that it might benefit to my business.

Bill Porter was born with cerebral palsy that caused his body oddly shaped and spastic walk. In addition, he couldn’t use one of his arms. But his burning desire to succeed in life on his ability was profound. He refused to let severe physical disability get in the way of his determination.

As Haanel states “thought is a spiritual activity and is therefore endowed with creative power.” (The Master Key – Part 14)

Bill manages to land a job as a door-to-door salesman for the Watkins Company. Bill walks several miles every day on his sales route, because of his sincerity, sense of humor and harmony spirit lead into the hearts of his customers.

“This discipline, this change of thought, this mental attitude will not only bring you the material things which are necessary for your highest and best welfare, but will bring health and harmonious conditions generally.” (The Master Key – Part 14, # 28)

Together with his mother’s strategy “Patience and Persistence”, I like the metaphor using the sandwich. Whenever I think about the sandwich, I immediately mentally see these two words in red “PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE.” Bill works from 8 am till the end of the day. He also practices his magic phrase “May I be candid with you?” I like the way Bill respects his company and customers by dressing professionally everyday.

I am most impressed how Bill built the harmony in the society. He does not only sell his products but also help his customers understand and love each other. I would like to thank to the Sweet Determination Bill for your creative harmonious attitude.

“Thought is the only reality; conditions are but the outward manifestations; as the thought changes, all outward or material conditions must change in order to be in harmony with their creator, which is thought.” (The Master Key – Part 14, # 25)

Week 13 — The Lucky Number

Mandino, Og states that “I recognize that each day I am tested by life in like manner.” (The Greatest Salesman in the World, p. 64)

According to Miss Universe contest 2015 on the 20th, If you were Miss Columbia, what would you spontaneously react to the circumstances and how long you need to mentally cope from that shocking moment?

Hmmm I watched a video and noticed that Miss Columbia looked calm and graceful. I have no idea if I were tested in a similar manner could I be able to react calmly and peacefully? I like her response “ I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes… After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world.”

What about Steve Harvey who mistakenly crowns wrong “Miss Universe”; If you were him what would you do to mentally get over of that mistake?  Here is the video:

I like Miss Philippine’s spirit; her awkward moment made her more beautiful and she had to force herself to smile.

Life is so challenging and being tested every moment; I am grateful and thankful for being a part of MKMMA. The best benefit that I have been receiving is to reinforce my persistence in practicing  Sitting and Mental Diet daily. It helps me connecting with the present moment more often.

It is the food which you furnish to your mind that determines the whole character of your life. It is the thoughts you allow yourself to think, the subjects that you allow your mind to dwell upon, which make you and your surroundings what they are. (The Seven Day Mental Diet by Emmet Fox)

There’s no room for fear or doubt if I’m centered in the present moment. The power of NOW!!!

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.” ― Eckhart Tolle
